Episode One

During episode one actor and director Dylan McDermott speaks about his children and the times he travelled around the world which inspired him. Guest Photography Platon speaks about his experiences photographing famous people such as Bill Clinton, Willie Nelson and Gadaffi. The episodes are hosted by Mark Seliger.

The first episode was interesting to me because of the range of photographs discussed. Platon talks about his feeling and circumstances that he was in whilst shooting images containg famous people such as Gadaffi. Platon describes how it wasn't his intention to shoot Gadaffi however it happened because Gadaffi demanded so; in fact it was in the White House. He then went on to say how that image made an impact on is life.

Then he started to talk about the famous Bill Clinton image which rustled up the press. He described how he wanted Bill Clinton to loosen up in a way, however due to the media it made a bad imapct to say the picture was indecent because of the pose that Bill Clinton was doing. He legs were spread whilst he was sitting down, his hands wereon his knees however they were bigger than they would normally have been due to the camera angle and lastly his tie was placed some what inappropriatley.

I like the stories that Platon told because he gave a new light to images that the public does not know about. To me this makes me think of all the other images in the worlds that have meaning but nobody except the photographer knows about. Its interesting.

Dylan McDermott talks about his children and travels. He starts off by talking about images that come from places hes been to such as Africa and how different their cultures are. He findes it emotional yet it interests him. Some of his images are powerful when it conveys the culture. He later goes on to talk about his children and if he could shoot one last time out of anything what he would shoot, he chose his children. How he loves to capture every moment with them.

I like what Dylan says because his views are parental and he has a strong father figure outlook on many of his images which conveys emotion. I view his images with a different perspective because im not standing in his shoes which links the Platon.

Overall I found this episode very interesting. It gave me the sense that you will never know the true meaning behind a photo unless the photographer tells you itself.
