For today's critical analysis of an artist, i decided to look at graphic designer Paul Rand. The picture is one of his many pieces of work. I especially like this piece because of the colours, typography and the spacing.

The colours consist of black, white, yellow and red. I think these colours go well together because bold and they stand out next to each other. Black is the background which is a block colour. This is to make everything else stand out. White, yellow and red are the colours of the typography and a eye icon. These colours work well together. Yellow and red have been chosen to only represent four words. The words in yellow are 'two' and 'Paul Rand'. I'm not too sure why this is, obviously its to signify to people that its his work, however i do not know why the letter two is in yellow. The word 'idea' is in the colour red, along with the eye icon. I think this is because he is trying to get people to notice that everything starts of with an idea and that you really do need an eye for designing to be a designer.

The typography has been arranged diagonally. I think this is a cool effect as it captures the audiences eye. The spacing is relatively close together but you don't get that tight feeling because different sizes of fonts have been used to balance the space.

Overall, i really enjoy looking at Paul Rands work because he uses a wide variety of colours and his designs are always different and interesting.
